The kougelhopf – from its original Alsatian name, also kouglof, kougelhof, kugelhof, kugelopf, kugelhopf or kouglouf (in Alsatian dialect), Kugelhupf or Gugelhupf (in German), Fùrmekùùche (in Lorraine) and Bábovka (in Czech). It is very popular in Alsace, Austria, Czech Republic and also in southern Germany. Even if it is not generally associated with one specific recipe, the shape remains the same. In Alsace, they use a brioche pastry, for example. However, in the Czech Republic it is a cake pastry that is traditionally used and Gugelhupf is often served on Sundays after lunch or as a dessert for guests.
