Slavic recipe - Gugelhupf
As soon as my kids are little, I bake with them. They have always loved to put their hands in the dough, as I did as a child - so I continue this tradition in honor of my dear mother. Today my son is preparing a surprise for me: a Gugelhupf. In the Czech Republic, my home country, it is a cake that is traditionally served on Sunday after lunch with a good coffee or tea. The cake was delicious and I am happy that the tradition can continue.
Ingredients for Gugelhupf, a recipe from Elias :
300 g flour
100 g potato starch
200 g sugar (my son used only 150 g)
1 packet of baking powder
1 packet of vanilla sugar
200 g butter (my son used only half of it)
1 g salt
5 eggs
Method:
Mix the softened butter with the sugar, vanilla sugar and pinch of salt until foamy. Add the eggs one by one, stirring constantly. Then add the sifted flour, potato starch and baking powder to obtain a smooth dough.
Grease a Gugelhupf baking mould and pour the mixture into it.
Bake for about 50 min in an oven preheated to 180 °C. Do not open the door during the baking time.
Remove the mould from the cake pan while it is still warm and sprinkle with powdered sugar.
