Chocolate Heart Biscuits

This recipe for Chocolate Heart Biscuits is very spicy and has an amazing flavour. If you are baking for children, you should simply avoid adding chilli. The dough is very easy to work with, it doesn’t stick and it also doesn’t melt in the oven. This makes it possible to use cookie cutters with more complex shapes. The ingredients are measured with help of a cup and a spoon. Don't panic, it's fine to measure ingredients without exact doses for once!

Ingredients for Chocolate Heart Biscuits:

1 + 1/2 Cups of Flour

3/4 Cup of Cocoa

1/2 tsp. Salt

1 tsp. Vanilla

2 tsp. Cinnamon

2-3 tbsp. Chipotle Powder – can be substituted for Cayenne pepper (I added 2 tbsp.)

3/4 Cup of softened Butter

1 Cup of Sugar

1 Egg

Cookie Decorating – Chocolate Glaze:

200 g White Cooking Chocolate

100 g Powdered Sugar

5 tbsp. Milk

1 Packet of Vanilla Sugar

Pink Food Colouring (liquid or powdered)

Required baking tools: heart-shaped cookie cutter

Method: Chocolate Heart Biscuits

Using stand mixer or hand mixer, cream sugar and butter until smooth. Add an egg and vanilla and mix well. In a separate bowl, mix all the dry ingredients together: flour, cocoa, salt, cinnamon and chipotle powder. Mix the dry ingredients with a whisk, then remove the lumps by stirring. Add the dry ingredients to the previous butter mixture and keep stirring until well combined.

Place your biscuit dough in an airtight container and let it rest in the fridge for at least an hour. Make sure your work surface is well floured and roll out the dough to a thickness of about 0,5 cm. You can try rolling out the dough between two sheets of parchment paper as well. Using a heart-shaped cookie cutter, cut out your biscuits and place them on a baking tray. Bake in the oven at 180 °C for about 10 minutes.

Method: White Chocolate Glaze

Melt white chocolate over a water bath. Once the chocolate is well melted, smooth and shiny, remove the pot from the heat and add powdered sugar, vanilla sugar and a few drops of food colouring. Stir well with a whisk until a smooth cream without lumps is obtained. If the cream is not smooth enough, add a little milk.

Decorate your biscuits:

Once your heart biscuits are all cooled, dip half of each biscuit into the prepared white chocolate glaze. Then place the glazed biscuits onto a wire rack until the glaze hardens.
